2018 Anime Review

2018 Anime Recommendations

2018 was a great year for anime Release, not one of my favorite years, but it was definitely a year with a memorable amount of debuts. From Winter Seasons to Fall Seasons, we had our share of the bads, an the goods. After compelling a list of 50 anime, I managed to break down a recommendation list of 33 anime I highly want to recommend. From all types of genre’s, let’s recap what 2018 brought us in terms of anime. Side Note: I’m leaving mainstreams like Boruto, DBZ Super, Etc. And anything from Fall 2017 out of the list. Which knocks out quite a few the collection, but I want to keep it strictly started on the Winter Season 2018.

Top 3 Weekly Anime & Games

One of the best remakes I had the pleasure to complete. This horror survivor game features Lean, and Claire, who have to escape Raccoon City whose been transformed into Zombies. From exploration, puzzles, and combat, with the main difference being the branching paths with unique storylines.

I highly recommend this game if your a fan of hack and slash games. You follow Dante, Nero, an a new hero name V. The plot follows 5 years after DMC 4, as they attempt to stop the demon Urizen. Nero follows Dante foot steps, an set up his own demon hunting agency. Also encounter my favorite character Vergil, who was revived. The story includes an intense lore story.

The same people who produced Kanon, Air, and Clannad also produce Angel Beats! Following the afterlife of Otonashi, a boy who lost his memories after dying. A bunch of high schoolers stuck in limbo. Yuri Nakamura, created a group to fight against God. Just like the predecessors the story becomes a tearjerker. The story becomes extremely emotional, all the way up until the end.

Comedic Relief

Parody Galore

I for one, enjoy a good laugh after seeing a new episode that breaks my heart, cough, cough “Dororo” it gets me everytime. In that aspect Parodies truly shine like no other when it comes to comedic relief. Mainly because Parody genres tend to focus on the joke itself, rathee than any real plot. The goal of a Parody is to make the viewers laugh as much as possible. Sometimes they add goals or agendas, but like a Slice of Life genre, it’s going nowhere. I received several inboxes via Facebook, to do a top 10 Parody post. I tend to stick to 5 or 7 when it comes to recommendations, because I always feel like I’m rambling, an the longer it is, the less detailed it is. Nevertheless, I received this request twice, so here’s 10 of my top parody animes.

Gotoubun no Hanayome

Who Will He Marry

Gotoubun no Hanayome is a rom-com harem anime, about a bankrupt teen, Fuutarou Uesugi, an his job as a tutor for Quintuplet sisters. Yup these girls, look, and sound the same, so without their different hairstyles telling them apart is impossible, their even equally terrible at school. On the first episode it shows him getting married to one of the girls. This anime really remind me of Nakaimo except without the incest.

The Quintessential Quintuplets is a must watch for those who enjoy these sort of genre’s. Following 5 sisters, one is a bride to be.

My Favorite Anime Characters

Ever watched a anime an realize how useless the MC was, I mean utterly clueless, an relied on supporting roles to get them out of tight spots. I honestly enjoy when side characters get so much extra shine, that they’re typically more important. It shows you that even if you don’t feel like a main character in your own story, supporting roles are just as important. Than you come across a overly OP mc who don’t need help from anyone. “Which I don’t count Kirito as a Mary Sue character” As powerful as everyone say he is, he undoubtedly needed help towards the end. Flying solo only last so long. These OP characters are enjoyable to watch, but there’s no sense of danger. You already know their going to beat whatever challenges come they way. Because of this most Mary Sue characters, lack plot because the main focus is all on flashy fight scenes, to make up for the lack of danger. Though I have to admit, I am still excited about One Punch S2 coming out in April. I prefer my main characters somewhere in the middle. Somewhat competent, an reliable, but not Mary Sue strong. Here’s a list of my Top 7 Charismatic Characters, without competence to stand as a Main Character.

My Favorite Yanderes

Yandere’s are Life

Earlier I mentioned how much I love heroines with a bit of a twisted personality. It might explain why my ex stabbed me with a Rat Tail Comb, I enjoy the crazy ones. Probably because they don’t ever meet the cliché we’re constantly forced to watch. Their erratic behavior makes them impossible to understand. On top of supporting the MC, we also have to worry about them naturally trying to kill them, or any love interest that comes in a 10 mile radius. Here are 7 from my personal collection, aside from Yuno, and Kurumi.
